As the only member (so far) of THE
METAL PIT writers from Canada I am always hoping to find talented Metal
bands from my home and native land to review and promote. In the
earlier days of metal there was a lot with bands like Rush, Anvil,
Exciter, Raxor, Piledriver...etc. All good bands but hard to really get
noticed. Now circa present day its the same problem for Canadian bands
to get noticed. The last few years I have come across a couple of great
Canadian Metal bands. Before The Damned from Ontario and Kobra and the
Lotus from Alberta, Canada. And we have Edge of Attack also from
Alberta, Canada.
Edge of Attack is
a 4 piece Power Metal band hailing from Grand Prairie, Alberta, Canada.
The band featuring lead vocalist Roxanne Gordey, guitarist Jurekk
Whipple, Denver Whipple on bass and drummer Trevor Swain. Guitars and
bass on this cd were done by Jurekk as his sister Denver joined the
band later. The album also features 3 songs with guest
vocalists involved which adds a different feeling to each of those
songs.
I have received many cds
from bands I know nothing of over the years. Some are good and some are
bad. On my first listen to Edge of Attack I was pleased that I made it
throught the first listen with no inclinations to press the skip button
so thats a good sign. Now afer many repeated plays of this cd I am very
pleased to announce Canada has produced another fine gem in the Metal
world.
Edge of Attack is power metal with a modernized edge to it.
On my first few listens I hear similarities to bands like Wolf, Metal
Church and even a little Maidenism creeping in. (that would be very
early Maidenisms) The 9 tracks all are heavy on the power side but all
with the melodies of the great power metal bands are known for. The
musicianship is great with great heavy guitar riffs, pounding
drums, great solos and the guitar melodies work very well with
Roxanne's dynamic vocals as she goes from screams to easily leading the
listener to want to sing along with her melodic tones.
My
favourite songs are Crimson Rain, the title track Edge of Attack and
Take Me Alive. .
If your into power metal at all give this band a
listen.
