THE METAL PIT: Hi
Athena , thanks for answering some questions for THE METAL PIT. How you
are enjoying your summer in L.A? Any travel plans?
ATHENA LEE: This is my best summer EVER in L.A.!! Not really traveling
because I'm working on the tv show "Ex-Wives ROCK" with my girls Bobbie
Brown,Sharise Neil & Blue. We're busy getting crazy here in L.A. right
now! Travel soon ;)
As a new author congrats on your new book
coming out “Coming In Second” ! Can you tell us when it will be available at
bookstores?
I don't have an
exact date yet as I am making changes with it as things change for me...I am
focusing on the show right now,but the book is definitely moving
along!
Also as Athena the actress , word has it you are working
on a reality show (VH1) “ EX WIVES ROCK” . Were all excited to get a glimpse .
When can we expect to see this television show on the air?
I wouldn't call it acting. LOL!!! I call
it FUN.. But it's DEFINITELY interesting & super funny! You'll see it
before the year ends for sure ;)I also want to mention that the show was
created by One of the Coolest Chicks Alive..Lorrane Lewis (singer-Femme
Fetale) So you KNOW it's gonna ROCK ;)))

inevitable Athena . Whats it like being the sister of Tommy Lee (Motley Crue)
?
Ummmm...COOL!
Was
Tommy a big influence for you in instrument selection growing up ?
I guess so..being that there were always
drums in the house.HA!
Would you ever work on a joint project
with your brother Tommy Lee ?
Of
course!
What drummers were you influenced by?
Terry Bozzio was the first drummer I
REALLY could relate too,because I was a dancer & he always looked to me
like he was dancing while he was playing!
What could one expect
from a live show with Athena Lee ?
A
TOTALLY different Athena than a year ago!!!..I was basically told what to do,
when & how to do it in my last project & now it's ON! ALL ME
;)))
What musical projects are you currently working on?
I'll be able to talk about all of that
soon,since my main focus is the show right now..but SOON ;)
As a
session player . Who have you collaborated with musically in your career?
I'm not really a session player..as much
as I like creating & seeing a finished project...I'm LIVE all the way!
That's what I love & why I do it! I can sometimes get bored easily in the
studio if things don't move fast enough.I'm kind of a Spaz like
that.HA!
Any gigs lined up to play outside of the USA ?
Not until there is a break in the show
& no one knows when that is yet..So, no plans JUST YET.. But I will be
letting you know for sure!
Any current gigs lined up for Athena
Lee in the region ?
Just goofing off
& sitting in with friends right now until I have the time to really focus
on something great!
I know you are endorsed by ROCKETT DRUMWORKS
are there any other endorsments lined up for you in the near future ?
I'm all set! What more can a Girl ask
for? ROCKETT DRUMS, REGAL TIP STICKS. ZILDJIAN CYMBALS!! It'a all
good!
What are some of your personal favorites on any of the
old projects you were associated with ?
OLD? I'd have to say Hardly Dangerous for sure! Those were some
GREAT times,Great Girls,Great songs & non-stop FUN!
What is
the song writing process for Athena Lee?
Lyricly I'm on my own & usually write about "real life" but
musically I need to write with a partner because I SUCK at guitar.HA! I pretty
much vocalize what I hear & a guitar player will translate
;)
What inspires you to keep playing ?
Alot of things! But mostly it's hearing
something that really moves me in some way, or seeing a good band live!!
That'll do it every time!
Being a mother have your children
envisioned themselves in the music business thanks to their musically talented
mom?
My Son Miles is a monster
drummer & just yesterday played for 15,000 people in San Jose with his
band "BAD SUNS" opening for the Neon Trees...Check em' out! They fuking ROCK!
Whenever I can be.. I'm right there in the crowd whooping em' on with everyone
else ;)))
On a serious note :You’ve battled cancer in the
past. What advice or wisdom can you give our readers ?
I've said it before & I'll say it
again & my answer will NEVER change..POSITIVE..EVERYTHING POSITIVE..from
your attitude, to the people you keep around you & to everything you allow
in your world! TRUST ME ON THIS!! well..me & a million other survivors
;)
Will you be attending NAMM in January 2012?
Oh HELLZ YES!! This is the first
year I am actually looking forward to it!
What was the last
music concert you saw?
Vains of
Jenna & they kicked ASS!!!
Any current NEW bands out there on the
scene that you would like to play with ?
BAD SUNS!
For people reading this that
don’t know anything about your music can you tell them why they should check
out ATHENA LEE ?
Cause I'm a
DORK!
You also got a great sense of rock and roll fashion
style . I was wondering where does that inspiration come from? Do you have any
favorite designers ?
Yeah, I really
like Frankie B. & SYC FUK for casual wear.. Oh & I LOVE boots &
Chuck Taylors!! I honestly don't really put that much thought into
it..I'm just usually a mix of Tomboy & Girly Girl..I'm never usually all
the way one or the other...So if you think that looks cool THANKS! LOL!! It's
only because I can't make up my mind what to wear so I throw it all
together.HA!
